Rolled Apple Pie
Ingredients:
- 250 g all-purpose flour
- 1 egg
- 1 tablespoon sugar
- 1/2 stick (50 g) margarine
- 1 teaspoon salt Almost
- 1 cup warm water
- 7 or 8 apples, more or less acidic, to taste
- 2 boxes seedless raisins
- Extra sugar
- Extra margarine
- Breadcrumbs
- Ground cinnamon
Instructions:
- Sift the flour with the salt and the tablespoon of sugar. Add the egg, warm water, and 50 g of margarine, mixing well. Knead until obtaining a smooth, elastic dough that doesn’t stick to your hands. Place it on a floured surface and cover it with a baking tray heated in the oven or in boiling water. Cover the dough with a thick cloth and let it rise for half an hour, away from drafts.
- Add another 2 tablespoons of melted margarine to the dough, mixing well. Line a large surface with a floured cloth and carefully roll out the dough, ensuring it doesn’t break, getting as thin as a piece of thick paper.
- Cover the dough with thinly sliced peeled apples, sprinkle with sugar, and spread the raisins on top. Sprinkle breadcrumbs and drizzle with more melted margarine, using a spoon to avoid soaking the dough. Sprinkle with sugar and cinnamon.
- Roll up the strudel using the cloth. Place it on a greased baking sheet or, if preferred, cut it into slices while still raw. Bake first in a hot oven and then in a moderate oven until golden brown. If possible, serve it warm.
Rolled Apple Pie is often prepared in a considerable size, sometimes reaching 70 or 80 square centimeters. It’s essential to remove the thick edge of the stretched dough before adding the filling, a result of the movement of stretching the dough from the inside out.
Some prefer to brush the Rolled Apple Pie with melted margarine every 20 minutes while in the oven, maintaining a moderate temperature while baking.
